I don't know about you, but my face dried up quicker this season than I can recall. One of the things that I did was have a dermaplaning session which included vitamin c as a wrap-up. My face was amazingly soft and the blemishes started to heal. I typically drink a lot of water, but my face was still dry before the facial. After the facial I have been moisturizing regularly( morning and night) and exfoliating with a light scrub every couple of days.
One of the challenges that I face is "consistency" (no pun intended, but hey we are talking about "faces" so it's a good play on words anyways: ) I noticed that the drier my face is the more breakouts I had experienced. Which is contrary to what I thought. I wasn't sure if it's because I tended to mess with my face more because it was dry. So I asked our experts and this is what they told me. Dry skin usually means damaged skin and our lipid layer is the barrier. When that is broken down, it's ability to renew cells consistently is limited and that causes a breeding ground for bacteria and acne.
Well you can bet that I'll be getting my dermaplaning and facials done consistently. Consistently just means about every 4 weeks.
I'm going to pass on the acne because of dry skin. My skin reacts to foods that I eat as it is so the least that I can do is keep it glowing and allowing the barrier to do it's job. It's the one small, consistent action that will give you the results that you desire and let's face it "Glowing Skin is Always In".

For a very long time the word "budget" meant as much as the word diet did to me. Both meant the end, death, restrictions, perfection, hard work, sacrifices, and other negative meanings. That belief held steady until one day I said, what if I could create a budget that was as though money was no object, time was more than enough, and I could allocate it as though it was already here.
That one thing changed everything. A dream budget! I even gave this homework to one of my client's and that has shifted everything. There was much excitement that this was going to be what I chose to assign dollars to and that I could change it if I decided I no longer really felt excited by it. What I realized was that as focused as I was on in the becoming of a person of prosperity mindset I was budgeting or lack of budgeting from a "barely getting by" mentality. So were my clients. So are many people. I look at a budget and all of the rules that society has created for us and the key component missing is seeing the beauty in our dreams.
A Dream Budget is perfect to see what it is that you really want in life (at least for right now). Often times what we think that we want is not even something that we deeply desire.
The reason budgeting did not work for me was because I had negatively defined it from my point of view. I had experienced not having enough so what was the point of putting that on paper only to feel worse.
What is one thing that you view negatively and all of the gurus tell you that you need it to solve your problem, but nothing has worked regardless of which ways you've tried it? A Dream Budget is not intended for you to feel as though you'll never get it so what's the point either or to feel bad about the not having. It's about getting creative, seeing some beauty in your dreams, feeling which organizations you would donate to, which random acts of kindness you would plan for, how you want to invest your money, etc.
One of the ways life works is by getting good with a small amount then you are entrusted with more. Start today by budgeting all of the ways that you would put yourself priority and feel amazing by taking such good care of you. Stop saying I can't afford it and start saying how cool would that be? You just never know the ways this will manifest in your life anyway. Not everything comes to us by way of one way only.
Create your Dream Budget and share with us the one thing on there that excites you most. Mine is to be able to randomly hand out money to our team or surprise them with a planned trip saying "pack your bags". Giving an all-expense paid trip to one of you and so many other fun things in my Dream Budget. It's all for fun, but also helps pull at your "why". When the burning desire arrives then the beauty of your dreams starts to be revealed. The future is for those who create it.

If a man insisted always on being serious, and never allowed himself a bit of fun and relaxation, he would go mad or become unstable without knowing it.
I love to laugh. In fact, sometimes, I laugh so hard that I either gag so much that I puke or end up nearly peeing on myself. We like to have fun at the spa too. Yes it's a relaxing, quiet atmosphere, but look out when you aren't on the table. We love a good joke so when you come in bring a joke with you or your sense of humor. I like to think that's what makes us so different than most spas. We Love to have fun no matter what we are doing.
When you enter La Palmera Spa you should expect to experience relaxation, but also a good, positive feel. As long as I can remember, having fun and laughing has been something that I want to experience as much as possible in life. The day that I met Keith I was a sobbing hot mess going through a divorce and he was able to make me laugh until I gagged. I knew then that he was a keeper :).
When you stop laughing you stop living (at least temporarily). Let some of that stuff that angers you go, let the pettiness of the perfectionism and faults that you point out in yourself and others go. Yes, you can hold and fulfill high standards, but do not sacrifice fun and feeling light-hearted for it.
Adulting, parenting, work, and all of the responsibilities that we have helps us lose that feeling of enjoyment, but it is so important to find it regularly.
Today, I challenge you to stop taking life so seriously. Settle in on the idea of this catch 22. Without laughter there is no relaxing and without relaxing there is not laughter. Without this you just might not realize that you are becoming unstable or mad :) So Stop Being So Serious and Enjoy a Nice Cup of Coffee, Tea, or Wine. Take rest; a field that has rested gives a bountiful crop.
Each of us may define "rest" very differently. Some define it as sleeping at night, stopping the runaway thoughts, hitting the snooze button 7 times, sitting in the car alone and in silence after dropping the children off, taking a vacation, napping, Netflix binge, cleaning, and the list could go on.
Merriam-Webster defines it as: 1 : repose, sleep specifically : a bodily state characterized by minimal functional and metabolic activities. 2a : freedom from activity or labor. b : a state of motionlessness or inactivity. c : the repose of death. 3 : a place for resting or lodging.
When a field rest it is just allowed to do what it will in it's natural state. Now I am not a farmer and am not certain if there are certain signs that the field has rested enough and is ready to give a bountiful crop or if it's just standard practice to allow it to rest a certain amount of time.
No when it comes to humans I can spot the look of rested a mile away. You know the person who suddenly appears to have less wrinkles, less frowning, less stress on their face? The person that you felt like something was wrong with them, but just couldn't put their finger on it? Maybe that person just so happened to be the reflection staring back at you in the mirror. Often times we run ourselves so ragged that ragged becomes our natural state of being. There is no one telling us to get rest until a doctor orders it or a family/friend who becomes worried. By then your mind and body have been screaming to give it rest in many ways and you ignored the signs.
If a farmer ignored the signs that the field needed rest then he/she would be planting, plowing, waiting for crop to be harvested and there just wasn't anything coming up. They would be spinning their wheels year after year until they gave up. Nothing the farmer would do could make that field produce. NOTHING.
The same holds true for us. Every single day we are harvesting of crop and rest is a requirement. Many of us have the belief that we will rest when we die or do not stop until we are forced to when we break something or get ill. Stop abusing your body, mind, and spirit like this. Take care of you today. Even if it's a 5 minute nap. If you do not then you are plowing a field that has no intention of producing. You are running in circles being "busy" and getting little to no progress made.
Spend the next couple of minutes writing a list of 5 ways that you can rest in under 15 minutes. Keep this list with you and begin implementing at least one of them today.
Treat yourself like the wise farmer treats his field and let your field rest to produce abundance.

When we are in constant negative stress state our brain physically becomes altered. It is not much different from one brain of being intoxicated. Sadly, many people choose the path of most resistance which is anger. They are so angry that they react throughout their days and take great pride in their behavior untilllllll.....they stop and then realize they now need to apologize for such actions. Some do not ever realize this and remain angry, taking it out on others who do not deserve such treatment, but tolerate the stressed, angry person anyway.
Maybe this angry person is you and maybe it's someone that you know. Regardless, if this is a topic that really hits home then you will want to pay close attention to the next 3 Secrets to Inner Peace.
1) Practice Mindful Meditation: This is not laying on a couch or your chair in a deep meditative state. This is actually being in the present to be aware of the things right now. 2) Bullet Journaling: Grab a pen and paper and bullet your thoughts
3) Count Backwards
Count backwards from 10-1. This puts your conscious mind to a specific focus which takes the thoughts from debilitating to peaceful.
Once you can be more present and centered then inner peace can be your desired and fulfilled state of being. Start with at least one of these until you master it and then add another. When I say master, I mean it becomes a habit that you do without thinking. In the beginning you will have set up timers, reminders, write in on the mirror in lipstick, anything that will make this your go-to more regularly.

Yesterday, I was listening to our Skin Expert talk about some of the results that her clients have from regular dermaplaning. I found it fascinating to learn that a babies skin cells are renewing around every 8 days and ours is more like every 28 days. The dermaplaning gives your skins a quicker renewal of cells which is when you get the baby skin look and feel. More plump, glow, and overall newness.

Anxeity is defined as, "a feeling of worry, nervousness, or unease, typically about an imminent event or something with an uncertain outcome." In psychiatry, "Anxiety is defined as a nervous disorder characterized by a state of excessive uneasiness and apprehension, typically with compulsive behavior or panic attacks."
Anxiety is not new and is definitely something more people are recognizing within their own being. If you've ever experienced anxiety or an anxiety attack it is not a fun feeling at all. I recall, when my sister, Jane, died that I felt like I was having a heart attack. My arm became numb and I just remember thinking that my parents cannot have two of their children die within a week. Luckily, I am schooled in the symptoms and knew that it was an overwhelm of fear, anxious, worry, panicky thoughts. I was able to slow my breathing and talk myself to a more normal state of mindfulness.
Because it can happen to anyone the ideal situation is to keep your mind and body in an abundance of relaxation state. In other words, before you experience a traumatic experience or even a nightmare you want to pre-treat yourself with the following tips:
1) Receive Reiki-Reiki is an energy healing practice that is usually done by placing the hands in a series of positions over or slightly above the body. Reiki promotes healing by activating the relaxation response and helping the body to balance itself from a very deep level. 2) Neck stretches-look down with chin to chest, take 2 deep breaths then slowly roll your neck from right to left until you did a full circle.
3) Strike a Pose-Just stand in a warrior pose and stretch as far as you can go
4) Journal-let your thoughts flow. The hand to paper ritual releases tension and allows you to slow your thoughts.
5) Get Organized-start small and take on 1 project at a time.
Stopping anxiety is a process. Give yourself the time, attention, and love by being patient with yourself and happy that you are taking control of your being.

You may not know this, thought about it, or could care about it (lol), but I was not the best student in the classroom and I really just wanted to be there for the socializing aspect. I was not a terrible student, but just did not enjoy the journey of learning as I do today. Maybe my teachers then thought "ahhhh, she will probably just get by, barely getting by the skin of her teeth". Some classes seemed easy to me, some teaching styles just resonated with me more than others, some grades were great reflections of my feelings ;) I just wonder if a teacher takes it personal when one student misbehaves in their class and a parent says I don't know why in your class you are having these problems, or other things that can make the human side come out.
As school is pretty much in full swing around here I think it's important for me to tell you teachers, past and present, please, please do not it take personal when students don't seem to be enjoying your class. Please do not take it personal when they are cutting up and being the class clown. Please do not take it personal and feel that you are failing your students or student when they can't get the lesson and are failing in the class.
I think that everyone of my teachers made an impact with regards to my ability to learn, the enjoyment that I have in the process of learning now, and the passion that I get to teach others in an unconventional way. I think that in the moment, while we are in the fire, and when results do not come out the way that we believe they should have (stupid geometry) it is hard to see just how much we will be positively impacted from the class. What I'm trying to say is that the older we get, the more fun learning seems to be because we started in your classroom in the searching phase....that is where the miracles began. Thank you for dedicating and serving children who grow up to be adults that love learning. Truthfully I am constantly reading, researching, and loving all of the knowledge that I gain. I would not be able to do this if it was not for each teacher that I had along my journey of education (formal and informal). Thank You Teacher!

We used to be warned about "Keeping up with the Jones'". Dave Ramsey warns us of this when we are focused on debt free, but who really warns us about keeping up with the beauty trends? There are beauty boxes with samples so you can try them out before becoming brand loyal.
Who really defines, starts, and ends beauty trends though? One of the first places to take chances and end up on the screen is "Hollywood", but now there's "Instagram". The beauty scene and trends may change out faster than the newest iphone or apps. Kim Kardashian is not shy of the trends that she starts and ends. I mean there is a show entitled, "Keeping up with the Kardashians". First she inflated her bootay and now she wants to flatten it. From the various hair colors to the fashion lines for the entire Kardashian family they are usually on top of the trends. However, if you try to keep up with them then you might be exhausted by the end of the week.
Truthfully though, I do not think that many people want to keep up, but do want to look and feel our best. When we look back at pictures of ourselves we often say, "what was I thinking with that hair style or clothing". That's the beauty of beauty it can never be labeled as boring or stagnant. It can also be so overwhelming and stressful to keep up with the trends or enhancement procedures so many folks say, "why bother" and sort of adopt a don't care, don't have time, classic way of life.

It just means that you must give the thing time, persistence, and belief before deciding yay or nay.
3) Focus on your strengths, rather than your weaknesses. We are all individually beautiful, designed originals, and most of us tend to look in the mirror and say what we hate about ourselves rather than what makes us strong, courageous, or brave. Talk to your beauty expert about simple solutions to accentuating your favorite features to start small.
4) Try stepping out of your comfort zone just a bit. If you find yourself going for the signature shades then step out of your comfort zone and see how you feel before taking on the new procedure or trend.
5) Most trends aren't too permanent so any change that you make can be changed again. Do not overthink your desire or wish to try. Sometimes just doing it leads to other positive changes in your life. Fear and critics will always talk you out of your desired destination. Often times the fear and critics reside in your own mind and body.

I don't know about you, but I can always tell when it's about to rain from the pressure of my head and neck-ache. The pain promises me that rain is coming. When the rain comes and is done I begin to feel better. There is much promise in pain. It will pass.
It is a good reminder and one that I want to share with you. The amount of pain that you have right now is going to change. Regardless if the relief is temporary or permanent you will not be the same as you are right now in this red hot minute. We are constantly changing. Think about this for a minute. Change is constant, pain is a promise. The promise is up to you. You can get excited that the sun is coming out, you can move to another place with a different environment, you can get a massage, you can go the chiropractor, you can take a nap, or you can focus on prayer. Whatever your choice is to change your present pain I challenge you to dig deep if you must to find a purpose and a promise to the pain.
Personally, I've been putting an essential oil blend on my neck which is working to relieve it in the moment. The root cause is that I have waited too long to get my massage and now I get to go through kick start phase again (which requires more time and attention) then to maintenance again. Maintenance is the place where I must consciously remind myself that the pain served a purpose and it was to put my needs on the calendar and on a massage table. I will choose to either go through the pain again or believe that I can shift my focus to something more productive. I am going to add it to my regular anchoring, just as I added reiki to my routine because I choose to feel lighter, happier, freer. Whatever I choose it will be because my desire to feel better has to be more powerful than the "too busy" to get the appointment in.

Do you sometimes look around and wonder, how in the world am I making it with all of the things that seem to be coming down on me? Do you ever have thoughts like there is just never enough time, never enough money, I don't know how I'm going to meet all of the demands this day, week, or month, year, or something is just taking way longer than I thought and I am running out of patience with the process or what seems to be laid back, non-caring, "not doing their job", couldn't give 2 hoots about me receiving whatever it is that I am waiting for ? Why can't people just do their jobs and the world would go smoother type of thoughts?
It may be a season that you are going through, a pop-quiz, or something else. Whatever it is, it definitely serves a purpose. One of the purposes is that you may need endurance during the test of patience. Perhaps you have gained some knowledge about a common theme in your life or you are ready to shift to a new way of doing things. You will likely need to call in support to change the old habits.
I recently had a client who recognized that she had been "committing financial infidelity" majority of her life. Before you gasp and finger point let me shed a little light on this scenario. This is something that was ingrained in her and that's how she knew to handle money and the relationships of those she loves. Her symptoms did not show up shopping and secretly hiding the clothes, the credit card statements, etc. This was not her thing (in fact she did not shop but a couple of times per year), but that is another sign and symptom of financial infidelity. It's just that she never told anyone about the current state of financial affairs because her belief that she carried the worry for the family was what she needed to do. Long before that she didn't look at the financial data because all of the ends were being met. If she missed a payment here and there it was because she "forgot" and then would react to the trigger of the phone call about it being late.
Now that she is aware of this we have identified a couple of action steps to change the belief that she is the sole person carrying the burden, identified action steps to change the situation, and systems to measure progress and establish healthy boundaries with herself and her loved ones. It's not easy, but step by step she is making progress and feels less stressed.
We tend to either do the things that our parents taught us or completely opposite. You are either an apple or orange. You choose which tree your fruit will bare and neither one is right or wrong, but everyone has some room for improving the underlying operating system. If you are the orange you are operating out of fear of being like your parents or parental figures. If you are like the apple then you are likely operating from a depression, recession, or some other era.
Times have changed and we have more opportunity than ever with the use of technology and new inventions, innovations, but our brains have not been rewired to keep up so we must take an active role in the rewriting of the scripts that are played. Slow down and listen to the anxiety, the anger, the stress. They have a very important message and it could just be your next, best breakthrough that releases the shackles.

Teaching Women secrets to prioritizing their busy days so that stress, overwhelm, and guilt are a thing of the past.
This week, Jessica interviewed our Massage Team: Courtney, Crystal, & Charmaine. No, we didn't do it on purpose (Massage Therapist interviewed all start with the letter, "C"), our team just happens to have Massage Therapists that start with letter, C.
Mayo Clinic says that "Sciatica refers to pain that radiates along the path of the sciatic nerve, which branches from your lower back through your hips and buttocks and down each leg. ... Sciatica most commonly occurs when a herniated disk, bone spur on the spine or narrowing of the spine (spinal stenosis) compresses part of the nerve."
1st we will go over what Courtney has to say about it.
Courtney wants to know if you've done any heavy lifting or strenuous work lately, especially if it's out of the ordinary work. Sometimes when you move in a way that your body is not used to it can cause the nerve to become impinged, pinched, and in shock. The sensation can be from your buttock to the back of your legs to your toes. Courtney said that massage therapy and certain stretches can help relieve this pain. One of the stretches she suggest is to place your right ankle against your left knee, hold the position for a minute before changing legs and repeat by switching side. A Top Tip from Courtney is to avoid driving or sitting down for an extended period of time(get up and walk around every hour). Also make sure your wallet is not in your back pocket. This puts pressure on your sciatica nerve.
Crystal wants to know what is your occupation and your daily activities? She said sitting at a desk and not lifting properly can cause you to have sciatica stress. Have you had any previous injuries or accidents to your back? If you have had car accidents (like me) or surgery then that can cause stress to your lower back and the glutes area. This could pinch the sciatica nerve causing pain from lower back on down. Crystal's top TIP is stretching and ice packs. Lift with your legs (NOT YOUR BACK), stretch one time per hour, take 20 minute Salt Baths(we love Himalayan Sea Salt). Crystal said when she is able to massage your glutes and really focus on the piriformis muscle you should experience relief.
Charmaine kept it short and sweet and she said that even though we are all different and unique most people will find relief within 2-3 massages and it depends upon the severity of it. The most common ages it is seen is from ages 30-70 and men are effected 3 times more than women!!! Go figure! A tip Charmaine would like you to know is to where comfortable, supportive shoes, and back support aides(look for a desk chair with a sturdy support).

There is no question that our mind and the thoughts that go through it are linked to the sensations in our body. Often times if you actually took a moment to scan your body you would likely feel tension, pain, twinges, tightness, and so much more. Maybe you wouldn't even feel those things at all. What if you would actually sit still and feel how wonderful your body did feel? It's possible, but the sad truth is, "When the body is stressed, muscles tense up. Muscle tension is almost a reflex reaction to stress — the body's way of guarding against injury and pain." .
The muscle tension can live on for days, weeks, months. You may not even notice it because it has become your way of life for so long that it may be your "normal". What if you could start to reduce those warning signals and even be more flexible or energized? Recently in my private client sessions I started having them do a mini body scan. The purpose of this is to pay attention to where their symptoms of stress are trying to tell us something. When we are always on the go, too busy to get a massage, constantly multi-tasking, and our memory is weakening I want you to know you have a lot of signs that you may have no clue about. For this moment, I will challenge you to do a 4 Minute "Mindful Body Scan" and please comment with your results(it might help someone else).

Last week we shared with you about waxing and hair care. Today, we are sharing with a Luxury sort of service that we offer by our Licensed Esthetician and Certified Dermaplaner, Randi. When we first heard the word dermaplane I almost couldn't help, but to stop and think about Fantasy Island and Tatoo calling in Da Plane, Da Plane. Quickly I realized that Derma means skin so it had to do with that, but What is Dermaplaning? Jessica interviewed Randi for more information to share with you about the real Dermaplane details and not what I initially thought it was too.
Randi told Jessica that it is a nonabrasive form of exfoliation. The Derma layer (top skin layer) and Vellus hair (aka peach fuzz) is removed. This is recommended about once per month. Your hair will not grow back darker and thicker because there are two(2) types of hair on the body:
1) Vellus Hair– fine translucent hair on cheeks, jaw & neck often referred to as peach fuzz. When Vellus hair is cut the structure of the hair is not changed or damaged.
2) Terminal Hair- thicker colored, coarse hair that grows on legs, arms etc.
So why would we want to do this? Well, I did it and it was amazing! I looked like I had gotten a face lift under my chin! Besides looks some of the other benefits are: smoother skin, awesome exfoliation, your makeup goes on better, and your at home skin care works better.
Facing our Fears:
Does it hurt? No it does not
How long does it take? About 1 Hour
What do I need to do after? Relax, No sweating, steam, avoid direct sunlight for 24 hours. Wear moisturizer & SPF
Can you wear makeup? It is best to wait 24 hours, but we get it(it's not always possible to wait that long and it's not harmful to the process if you must do it sooner).
Do you recommend for acne skin? No but we do offer Acne Facial & a light chemical peel for exfoliation

When we think of hair, we usually think on top of our heads.

What if I told you that your facial hair, body hair, and lashes are also places that your hair has a mind of it's own? It's true!
Sure you may notice your hair falling, getting more grey or a few greys showing up, a receding line, a "bald spot", but did you know that the average person loses about 100 hairs per day and most people don't even notice. Stress of any type does lead to additional loss, but the actual cause of the shedding isn't always easy. To determine the cause, you should look back at what was happening three, six, or even nine months before the hair loss began.
Now what about your lashes, facial hair, body hair, and here a hair, there a hair, everywhere a hair, hair?
Let's start with Your Prize Possession:
1) Lashes-Stress will either cause you to pull your lashes out or they will fall.
2) Facial Hair- You win some and you lose some. In this case, stress causes unwanted facial hair. In response to stress your adrenal glands pump out "stress hormones". "Excessive hair (key word here is excessive) on the face, especially around the chin, upper lip, breasts or chests, or basically hair on a woman that matches a male hair pattern on a female body is known as hirsutism. Men can have hirsutism when their hair is truly excessive in hormonally dependent areas. A diabetic woman with a full male pattern beard would be said to have hirsutism."
3) Body Hair: "The body areas to look first for androgen sensitivity are the places where terminal hair usually grows on women. Here they are in descending order of sensitivity: pubic area * underarms * perianal area * sideburns * upper lip * periareolar (around the nipple) areas * the chin and “beard” region * arms and legs * between the breasts *shoulders * buttocks * back * abdomen.
"You can evaluate your hair growth first with a scoring tool known as the Ferriman–Gallwey score. This test measures the degree of hairiness or hirsutism a woman is experiencing. You can look at the images and gauge where your hair growth ranks from 0 (no terminal growth) to 4 (maximal growth)."
The good news is because stress and hair are related you can change your present situation. Here are 5 quick ways to reduce the levels of stress in your body. Remember what happens now may not bring visible results for another 3, 6, or 9 months so keep track and focused.
1) Do Not Forget to Breath- (Take at least 3 deeps breaths in and out (blow out longer than you inhale.)
2) Get to know You on a more Intuitive Level (Take quizzes on personalities, journal your likes/dislikes about your day, read those entries at a later date.)
3) Stop Putting it Off!™- (Start to take one small step on each item that you keep putting off (if this is a chronic problem then seek support and accountability.)
4) Pay Attention to What You Eat/Drink and Your Responses to Those- (Sometimes we have a sensitivity or allergy that we are unaware of.)
5) Take a Step Back Before Responding- (Our controlled response is far more powerful than a reaction that you later regret.)

Are you an all or nothing kind of person? Does the idea of starting something overwhelm you and you don't start at all? I'd like to share a quick tip to shift from the "all or nothing mindset" which leads to success in "MindBodyStressLess".
This works for me, as well as my clients. I learned this from my Coach when looking for results to action steps. I have adopted this strategy and implemented in each area of life and when picking a goal or new habit I choose a good number, then a better number, then a best number. For example: I am going to lose @ least 40 pounds. One step to achieving this is that I am going to go to the gym. I measure my success by GOOD=@ least 2 days per week, BETTER=@ least 3 days per week, and BEST=@ least 4 days per week. This allows me to be realistic because not every week I will be able to go as many as 4 days, but it's still good! I have successfully completed 4 weeks, taken an anniversary/birthday trip, and are seeing positive results in most areas of life and business.

As November(one of my favorite months) is hours away and I reflect on the past year I see lots of challenges that we have had to overcome. One being the economic situation of the oil and gas industry and another being the Great Flood 2016. Both of these are still evident today and is no big surprise, however, one that is not so evident and has been a long standing challenge is...You. Actually not You, you, but more like Self. The idea of self-care being a luxury instead of a necessity has been a challenge to overcome.
We got into this industry not because there were millions of dollars up for grabs, but because I was attached to an EKG machine in my mid-30s for lack of caring of myself and giving more than I had in the workforce. It was shortly after my realization that I could die if I didn't begin to understand and change my ways of stress and the pressures that I allowed myself to be under sooner rather than later. Boy, did I ever begin to understand it. I became a Stress Management Life Coach and La Palmera Spa became an extension of this understanding.
I have worked and continue working with my own Coach to make myself a priority. In fact, not only do I walk nearly 4 miles most days I just joined a local crossfit family, called CrossFit Cayenne. I've realized much of my value and without me, I cannot do what I am called to do and that is to be the International Stress Management Life Coach and Owner of La Palmera Spa. Our team all believe in what we do and regularly get massages, facials, use the essential oils, and so much more. So the message that I have for you is truly that Self-Care is not a Luxury.
Don't just take my word for it. In a recent article of Skin, Inc. this holds true in New York as well, "One of the biggest challenges skin care professionals have is convincing clients that skin care is a priority, not a luxury. Regularly getting them back in the treatment room can be a battle."
For my birthday (this is why November is one of my favorite months:) I wish that you take this month to take care of you. You are not a Luxury, you are a priority.

The soap scum line is likely what’s on my face???? WHATT?????
In a recent conversation during training it was brought up that soap tends to be the go-to for face cleaner for many people and there are no visible problems so why stop. I used to and sometimes am that person who just washes her face with soap and moves on. Then a comment was made that it’s likely that the soap scum left in the tub is what our facial skin looks like under the surface. Ummmm gross!
That one comment has made me take 5 minutes per day to actually wash, cleanse, moisturize, and tone my face. This morning I noticed the glow and how easily my makeup was to put on. Can the soap scum really be what was on my face. I don’t know, but it definitely grosses me out at the thought so adios one, two, skip a few steps for self care.
What’s one step that you tend to shortcut? Why do we shortcut our own self-care anyway? Isn't it funny that we make changes based upon something that we fear or want so badly (most of the time it's fear, but hey the other works too).

The Flood of 2016 has taught me a few things. One of those is that cats/dogs can make a point to play this game of chase, hiss, slap, run some more, tag you're it, and hiss again. When they are tired, the game is over and they go back to their spots of comfort. From a human's perspective it would appear that the cat cannot stand the dog and the dog continues to harass her no matter how annoyed she is. Honestly, it's just a game. They seem to enjoy it and we get a laugh for the night. It was even observed that the cat seems to be less stressed when the humans try to get a rise out of her too.
So you see, the Flood of 2016 may have put us all in situations which we are unfamiliar with, but you can be a calmer state (even with more stress) if you allow yourself to play a game, get it out of your system, and go about your business. The problem with us humans is that we tend to let the game keep playing, don't hiss and take control, and we don't allow our own beings to find comfort that we need in a time of unfamiliarity.
Play the game of cat/dog if you need or just laugh at the cat/dog if playing isn't your thing these days, but whatever you do take a break and enjoy the uncomfortable of your present.

The images represent randomness that occurred in my life. The beautiful butterfly landed on the limestone drive during my daily walk and I waited until it opened it's wings to see it in all of it's beauty. The sun images were discovered when I took 1 of our 2 dogs, Jane Alexander, out and looked to the left and realized that just around the back of our home the sun was so bright that I couldn't even look too long. It was amazingly bright and put me in a state of awee.
Both of these are random landings in my life and that's how I feel about a lot of things. The reminders of when we worry and how we never know when a random landing is set to arrive. What if our worry takes up so much space that we miss the random landing? What if we miss out telling someone that we love them? What if we miss the random landing of another person in our life because we are so caught up in the hustle and bustle of each day? What if we miss the random landing of our own being and miss the intentions that are supposed to be taking? What if we miss the random landing of our own health and positive energy because we never stop long enough to take care of ourselves?
